RP110 World Superyacht Awards

Horizon RP110 - World Superyacht Awards

Horizon Yachts is pleased to announce that the Horizon RP110 'THE LEGION' has been nominated in the Boat International World Superyacht Awards 2020.

Building a custom yacht is a very challenging endeavor. Thousands of details are addressed during the construction of every quality yacht, and even the most minor design change or adjustment in a yacht build requires in-depth analysis by an experienced professional team to ensure that safety, comfort, performance and delivery schedule are not compromised. In the case of the Horizon RP110, The Legion, the customization began with the requests of an experienced owner.

I didn’t want the same as everybody else,” said the Australian owner, who returned to Horizon to build his third yacht – this time equipped with a specific list of “must have” features he compiled during visits to superyacht shows around the world. He remained very involved in the design and details of this one-of-a-kind vessel and visited the Horizon facility in Kaohsiung a total of 20 times during the two-year construction period.

The design of The Legion was based on the proven RP110 platform, designed by J.C. Espinosa, to which the owner requested a five-foot hull extension as well as the addition of a ten-foot, ten-inch swim platform. This resulted in a very a customized yacht with an LOA of 121’ 10”. Lengthening the hull allowed for an enlarged aft deck entertaining area and a custom beach club equipped with a sauna, changing room, bar, kitchenette and plenty of space for watertoys. The owner further enhanced the yacht’s eye-catching profile by selecting a deep navy blue for the hull, which is dramatically set off at night by 28 units of blue underwater lights fitted within the hull.

Designed to provide the ultimate indoor/outdoor experience, The Legion has been designed with a combined skylounge/open bridge configuration that offers an enclosed, climate-controlled skylounge with an impressive seven-foot-wide electrical Hi/Lo window. The spacious flybridge features a custom designed octagonal Jacuzzi for ten with an integrated waterfall, as well as a full bar and entertainment area.

The owner, who was keen to operate the boat himself, requested all of the equipment needed for a global-roaming explorer superyacht. The Legion is fitted with complete ship’s control and monitoring systems, from a Yacht Controller to a multifunctional pilot console featuring the OctoPlex and Maretron systems, automatic fuel transfer function and wireless remote control for all hydraulic systems.

Perhaps the most notable customization, however, is the massive Hi/Lo carbon fiber swim platform the owner specified to accommodate and launch his three-ton, 28’ center console Scout fishing vessel. The platform’s hydraulic system, custom-fabricated by Aritex, is more complex than most commercial vessels. The cradle moves back and forth as well as dropping down, providing three stages of lift for complete control while launching the support vessel.

Designer Cor D. Rover executed the owner’s request for a “wow factor” within the yacht’s interior, where high gloss Macassar Ebony, black, crystal and gold detailing compliments bespoke furniture and high-end materials.

At the end of each customized build project, such as this one, we at Horizon are tremendously proud of the extraordinary efforts of our architects, designers, engineers and the entire Horizon team, whose collaboration with the owner resulted in another exceptional vessel. Upon taking delivery of his new yacht, the owner remarked, “Horizon went to great lengths to achieve my vision. Their craftspeople went above and above in every facet of the build to achieve the pinnacle of customization. The entire team excelled. I am extremely happy, satisfied and proud of the end product.
